Many people decided to use the opportunity to send in photos of the pranks they'd played on their colleagues.
Here is a selection of some of my favourite photos.
There seems to be much use of jelly! Is there an office pranks manual that advocates sweet cherry flavoured moulds for office equipment?
I can't decide on my favourite, its between the elastic band phone and the peanut filled booth. one so joyous but very messy and the other sculptural but incredibly frustrating.
to view the whole selection click hereMundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-91958944237616381132008-09-17T22:55:00.001+01:002010-12-12T20:38:04.164+00:00Out and About with Mundane Appreciation: A blood analysis cubicle. By friday, for her second lots of tests we headed for a nondescript clinic in San Angel. We drove, getting lost only twice in the lunch time rush. Once at the clinic I was handed more forms to fill out ( i used a black medium rollerball pen). We sat next to a water cooler with one broken flipper - tepid- hot and ice cold still worked.
Half an hour later we were ushered through a dark wood laminate door and told to wait. Inside the tiny room was the most brilliantly arranged table. We both immediately felt better, and had something to talk about other than illness. Which coloured blood vial we preferred? Which was our preferred stacking system? And what was the best angle from where to admire the table.

A brilliant ten minute wait!!Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-30106525572132951772008-09-17T20:52:00.002+01:002010-12-12T20:42:35.091+00:00

The joy of Mundane Appreciation has reached beyond the Watford Gap! - cue sound of cheers and the smooth swish of the unravelling of streamers!

Hello. A friend of mine called Adam suggested I send you this photo.
I live in rural Lancashire and like to get out into the countryside on my bicycle. At the weekend, I saw several signs that had appeared on the grass verges, with arrows pointing the way. Oddly, the signs said, "Eggs, chips and beans". They were pointing the same way as my route home and appeared to be directing people into a horse farm, where some kind of showjumping event appeared to be happening. Even more strangely, the final sign pointing up the drive of the farm read "fan belt". What can it all mean?
Regards,
KegMundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-54101332966982933272008-09-17T20:41:00.000+01:002008-09-17T22:03:14.904+01:00Found! shopping lists<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6qaK-1_KNlXMXyxdWniGnacg-_DUrDVdHztFshiGNe0itLt89xuJJ8xsVq_iZxShyphenhyphenJfoHypGlm61t2t_-ySgUzaEaDVQ0T1-XL2FfG2bBp60tWY64DVOmFi9u4JbivO_S6SZUYUP1AZLV/s320/Waitrose+19-08-08.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247080185613425442" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDgx9DbWC1E7lYj6yDyQQQirJE_2K2rte8620eIr01BFZ-ozzjvzlcKyGSQiLNTzYaPE8vXec0rK8RvvcTZg7kEmeV9ZSbHipsC6gb-FqkN2tlz354gf28pW4ROmW3F-34Muk5yYu7tu6I/s320/Waitrose+19-08-08+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247079997251190258" />
Earlier in the week, Mundane Appreciation received a fascinating email from Jane, she was kind enough to send in scanned images of shopping lists she had found abandoned on a trolley clip board.

"Found at Waitrose on 19th August 2008. Make-up mirror: Reflects the sun, signaling to airplanes.
9. Credit card: Can be used to cut or, if it includes a reflective hologram, can signal for help.
8. Bra: Serves as water filter.
7. Lipstick: Can be used to write SOS on the top of your car or neighboring rocks.
6. Tampon: Serves as tinder once broken up into fuzz.
5. Shoelace: Binds sticks and other items together to create shelter.
4. Sock: Can also filter water.
3. Wristwatch: Determine direction by pointing the hour hand at the sun and form an imaginary line through the center of the "wedge" created between the hour hand and 12 o'clock -- that is your north-south line.
2. Paper clip: When magnetized, makes a makeshift compass.
1. Battery: Cross with wire to generate a spark in order to start a fire.

Why not appreciate each object for their own perfect use instead of filling our heads with a fantasy survival? there is only so much timber that can be bound with a shoelace, maybe to serve as a hand shelter, but surely the most obvious question is how do you magnetise a paper clip?

Credit cards should only be used for shopping, lipstick for a night out and tampons should not be destroyed incase of a real emergency!Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-78301826677824751512008-04-20T17:03:00.000+01:002008-04-20T17:16:02.548+01:00ARTISTS MAKE INTERESTING RADIO FROM MUNDANE MATERIAL IN NEW ARTS COMMISSION

Artists Felicity Ford, Kayla Bell and Claudia Figueiredo are teaming up this summer to bring you The Fantastical Reality Radio Show in association with Mundane Appreciation. The radio show has been commissioned by Brighton’s RadioReverb 97.2FM and will feature at the Sonic Arts Network EXPO 4 – 6 July 2008. The Fantastical Reality Radio Show will be broadcast on RadioReverb 97.2FM and will offer and fresh and celebratory view of everyday sounds.

The Fantastical Reality Radio Show aims to draw listeners into an entertaining exploration of ordinary audio. Ranging from a Top Annoying Domestic Noise Chart to games like Imitating household noises using just the voice, the radio show will excavate immediate situations for audio intrigue. Playfully collapsing the borders between what is normally considered to make ‘boring’ or ‘interesting’ listening, The Fantastical Reality Radio Show is intentionally affirmative and builds on the artists’ former experience of working on participatory projects.

Five shows in total will be recorded over the next couple of months and listeners will be able to submit their views, audio clips, images and opinions in the forthcoming website at www.fantasticalreality.com. At the EXPO, Mundane Appreciation will be out in full force with roving investigators, an interviewing desk and a Game Show area where visitors will be able to join in and become a part of the show.

Felicity Ford is doing a PhD on The Domestic Soundscape and the presentation of everyday sounds to audiences. Mundane Appreciation, founded by Figueiredo and Bell in February 2007, is an agency devoted to promoting and exploring the processes of day-to-day life.

Having gathered recent professional experience showcasing their individual projects at events like The Battersea Affordable Art Fair (Mundane Appreciation) and The UK Stitch’n’Bitch Day (The Missability Radio Show) these artists are keen to see what happens when they match their skills and current fascination with everyday reality and interactive projects.

To speak to any of the artists involved or to get more information on this project, please email felixbadanimal@hotmail.com or telephone 078 3513 6201

Links:
www.missability.com
http://www.myspace.com/mundaneappreciation/
www.thedomesticsoundscape.com/wordpress/Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-76654582597682267152008-04-20T16:29:00.000+01:002008-04-20T16:58:51.207+01:00RollingMundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-51097636006462189412008-04-18T22:50:00.000+01:002008-12-09T20:21:04.994+00:00Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-9491440515389891082008-04-10T23:37:00.000+01:002008-12-09T20:21:05.352+00:00Oskar's Uniformes
Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-19948110098193100482008-04-10T20:54:00.000+01:002008-04-10T23:36:57.705+01:00Mundane Appreciation needs a new uniform!
We have both decided that our air hostess/promo girls look needs to be re-vamped and have challenged each other to create a new outfit.

On my quest for a inspiration for our new attire I took the Metro-Bus to Oskar's Uniformes in the La Roma district. I had passed Oskar's Uniforms on many occasions and thought it a perfect place to investigate a new uniform.

This was my first time on a Mexican bus, if you have visited Mexico City you would understand my reluctance to board the more usual buses 'Peseros' (so called because the fare was 1 peso) These buses are like no other buses I have seen with their green and grey colours, their boxy form is extraordinary with an angular bonnet much like a child would draw, some are accessorised with alloys and skull shaped break lights but most look like they might disintegrate at any moment, they are strapped together, filled and welded. Lights are not so easy to mend, most have no indicators and nearly every bus you pass has ominous gashes running along its body work. The Peseros race one another to their fares, the buses are private, so the fare the drivers make goes straight into their pockets or towards paying the owners of the busses. To get ahead in this race the drivers take no notice of red lights they switch lanes without signalling, ignore the police and stop for their fares wherever they like as there are no actual bus stops. This haphazard bus service is Hated by the middle class but provides an invaluable service to the poor.

The Metro-Bus is a much more tame service, It's operated by the city and runs along the centre of Insurentes, a thirty kilometre avenue that dissects the city from north to south. The service offers platforms instead of bus stops, The bus doors open at shoulder height from the ground but equal height to the platform. There are platforms at kilometre intervals all the way along Insurentes and the bus stops at everyone. It is genius that the name of this service describes its function so well.

I rode the Metro-Bus from Olivia to Alvaro Obregon. Oskar's Uniforms has a corner plot, I had imagined it to be a huge department store of uniforms, where I could dress up as a nurse, petrol pump attendant, maid, or police woman. Sadly however Oskar's failed to live up to my playful, if juvenile expectations! The window displays on the ground and 1st floor were frustratingly inaccessible, closed off behind dirty windows. When in the store It was clear there would be no playing, all the uniforms were folded neatly in plastic bags and shelved. Between myself and the shelves was a huge wooden barrier/counter and a woman imediatly began asking me if she could help me. I thought it easier to say i was looking for uniforms for my boss, and needed to take pictures of examples for her to see. I realised too late that I had pronounced the word boss incorrectly, instead of 'jefe' (pronounced hef -ay) I said chef (che-f) - a cook and was handed a catalogue of chefs clothes, nice but not exactly what I had hope for. I tried again, but my Spanish was not up to it plus the closer I was to the uniforms the less I liked them and as I couldn't try any on the fun had gone so I made a swift exit, documented the scene and rode the bus south.

Now I'm thinking red gingham blouses with navy pencil skirts.
Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-17921483685755418992008-03-12T20:44:00.000+00:002008-12-09T20:21:05.520+00:00New Badges

A selection of some of our new badges.

Material sourced from envelopes, bills, instruction manuals, till receipts plus, for a limited time only genuine mexican taco stall table cloths!
Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163744147367466642.post-20805915722437994422008-03-04T17:34:00.000+00:002008-03-04T17:47:32.568+00:00Revealed at last, Diana liked nothing better than to queue. The former lover of Princess Diana Haznet Kahn was not present in the court room, In a statement read to the high court yesterday, He told police that Diana was not used to doing everyday things that most people take for granted.
"for example, we once went to the pub together and Diana asked if she could order the drinks because she had never done so before," he said "she really enjoyed the experience and chatted away happily to the barman...On another occasion we had to queue to get into Ronnie Scott's Jazz club. As a favour to the staff at the AAF, we kindly accepted their challenge for us to organize and inventory a messy box of stationary from their office. We invited our viewers to help us do this as a team. Participants polished brass, changed plugs, folded clothes, wrote to do lists, and anwerphone messages. We had a brilliant time and can't wait until the next Mundane Appreciation Week.

Mundane Appreciationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09633957700565267943noreply@blogger.com0
